Why We Bargain
Michigan Medicine PAs have been working for more than 195 days and counting with an expired contract. Here are some reasons why we bargain for fair and equal pay and benefits:
- On average, union worker’s wages are 11.2 % higher than their nonunion counterparts.
- Did you know unions help bring more working people into the middle class. In fact, in states where people don’t have union rights, workers’ incomes are lower.
- In addition to supporting the middle class, unions contribute to economic growth and resilience. They do so in part simply by reducing overall inequality.
- In July 2023, NP colleague wage scales went ahead by 2.91%. In July 2024, colleague wage scales went ahead by 8.06%
- UPAMM’s proposal is to bring wage scales to equity immediately starting July 2020 and to make up for lost wages in FY 2024.
- NPs and PAs often apply to the same jobs and sit side by side doing the same work. Much like MDs and DOs at UM. Yet NPs and PAs have different pay scales where as physicians enjoy equitable wage scales.
